A botrányt kirobbantó beszélgetés a kutyapárt és a Fidesz politikusa között később a Válasz Online-on jelent meg, a portál azt állítja, hogy hangfelvételük is van erről.
A cikk szerint Lévai és Aleva találkozóján Lévai kijelentette, polgármester szeretne lenni, ám erre csak abban az esetben van esélye, ha vannak más jelöltek is, akik meg tudják osztani a baloldali szavazókat. Lévai a segítségért cserében pénzt ígért Alevának.
A hír hallattán kitört a botrány, kedden pedig a Fidesz egy rövid közleményben bejelentette, hogy Dr. Lévai István Zoltán Budapest 15. számú Országgyűlési Egyéni Választókerületének elnöke a mai napon a választókerületi elnöki tisztségéről lemondott, a Fidesz párttagságát pedig megszüntette.
